Maine Maritime Museum is thrilled to offer a rare opportunity to meet and hear from Dr. Robert D. Ballard, one of the most accomplished and well-known deep sea explorers in the world.

Adventurer, expeditioner, and oceanographer, he is best known for his 1985 discovery of the Titanic, in addition to the German battleship Bismarck, the lost fleet of Guadalcanal, the U.S. aircraft carrier Yorktown (sunk in the World War II Battle of Midway), and John F. Kennedy’s boat PT-109. One of his most important discoveries was of hydrothermal vents and “black smokers” in the Galapagos Rift and East Pacific Rise along with their exotic life forms living off the energy of the Earth through a process now called chemosynthesis.

This event will feature an exclusive VIP cocktail reception where select guests will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Ballard, have their photo taken with him, and receive a signed copy of his autobiography Into the Deep. All guests will enjoy a presentation that evening by Dr. Ballard, which will also feature a live feed from the exploration vessel Nautilus
